YSWMI Update 1: Out Now!

We’re happy to announce YSWMI Update 1 is live today!

Changes:

Linux Version:

An awesome Linux version of YSWMI is now live! We’ve tested it on Ubuntu 13.04 but we’re guessing it should run on any Linux system with the right dependencies installed (and, of course, you can download the free and awesome Linux demo to test out the game on your system first).

18 New Levels:

The 18 Classic levels from You Probably Won’t Make It have been added to YSWMI, all with fancy new graphics! Try them out, they’re really hard. :)

Japanese:

こんにちは!ベットラー・ゲームズです!YSWMIの日本語の翻訳はすごく格好いい!

With that (probably) poorly written and grammatically incorrect Japanese sentence, we introduce You Still Won’t Make It to the land of the rising sun. With a (hopefully) grammatically correct translation of the game, courtesy of a native speaker, that is. If you have any Japanese friends, please let them know about the game!よろしくお願いします!

Korean and Chinese soon to come!

Gamepad support:

We’ve fixed the gamepad input on the game itself (a bugfix), and we’ve added gamepad support to the main menu, for good measure. There’s still no support on the Options screen, but it’s a nice start. :)

Bugfixes:

We’ve reduced the memory footprint of the game, as well as patching some pretty massive and embarrassing memory leaks. Amongst other things. Full screen mode on Mac OS X now fills the entire screen, too.

New death effects:

We’ll keep it a secret, but you might find them fun, or not, depending on your tastes. Go complain to Marty with your pitchforks and torches, it was his idea after all. ;)

How to upgrade:

Now that you know why you should upgrade, it’s time to tell you *how* to upgrade. YSWMI Update 1 has the version number 1.1.0 so be sure to watch out for that in places like Desura.

Desura:

If you have Desura installed, the client should automatically patch the game for you. Alternatively you can download for Linux using the Linux client or download a .DMG from the Desura website for your Mac.

Humble Widget:

Widget

As you can see, the Humble website automatically lets you know when a new version of the game is available. For good measure, all YSWMI Update 1 files have the number 1 on them for easy identification.

Simply download, and replace the old YSWMI version with the YSWMI Update 1 executable.

Other storefronts:

Mac App Store users should get the update as soon as it is approved by Apple. Likewise with IndieGameStand customers.

Enjoy Update 1, and be sure to let us know if you have any suggestions!

A quick update…

YSWMI Update 1 is being pushed out as we speak. Right now it’s only available in very select places (Desura), for very select platforms (Linux). The update should start appearing randomly as the various storefronts approve it for various different platforms.

You might be getting a ‘NEW YSWMI VERSION!!1!!1′ message if you run the game… that’s because we updated our records server-side and the message should now fire for all copies of YSWMI 1.0.

We’ll post more news once the update has been pushed out everywhere, with instructions on how to upgrade.

You can now (finally, sorry for any delays. :P) get You Still Won’t Make It on the Mac App Store! The place which made You Probably Won’t Make It successful now has the long awaited sequel, You Still Won’t Make It. We’re very excited to finally release YSWMI on its spiritual homeland (homestore?), so hopefully we’ll see you playing from launch day. Get it here! :)

Other news:

First things first, do remember to follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook so you can get the latest Vetra Games news without having to check this place. We’re not the spammy kind of page, so you can rest assured that we won’t spam your feed with useless marketing. :)

Now that that’s been said, it’s time for the juicy news! First on the list is YSWMI Update 1. Here’s some of the new features we’ve been planning:

18 new levels:
We’ve brought the 18 ‘Classic’ levels from You Probably Won’t Make It over to You Still Won’t Make It, and trust us, they’re really, really hard. Not only that, but they’re also revamped with YSWMI’s gorgeous graphical style and full of little Easter eggs and stuff out there for you to find.

Linux version:

We’ve ported YSWMI to Linux!  All of you Linux users should now be able to enjoy the full glory of YSWMI running natively on everyone’s favourite open source operating system. Do note that we’ve only tested it on Ubuntu but it should run fine on other distros should the required dependencies be installed.

A few extra effects upon death:
We’re keeping this a secret for now but we expect the game to be reclassified by PEGI and the ESRB due to this. :P

日本語:
We’re localising the game to Japanese, adding to the existing localisations of Spanish, French and Dutch. If you live in Japan and/or have Japanese friends, don’t hesitate to show off the game and get them playing! :)

To all of you Korean speakers… we’ve got a localisation in the works for you too, but we probably won’t be able to finish it by this version. Rest assured that it’s coming one way or another!

Gamepad & bug fixes:
We’ve fixed some issues with the gamepad (MASSIVE kudos to Razey, Scytharia, and figalot for making us aware of the issue) and it should no longer cause trouble. We’ve also made the full menu gamepad-compatible.

Proper fullscreen on the Mac:
On Mac OS X, the screen will now scale to fit the screen, instead of keeping the aspect ratio as before.

YSWMI Update 2:

You should really watch out for YSWMI Update 2. It will not only include some pretty fresh graphic updates, but it’ll also include another 18 levels in the form of World 4, the Level Editor, Collectibles, and a (potential?) Greenlight campaign. So be excited…

Also, please don’t hesitate to send us your thoughts via Facebook, Twitter, Desura, the comments, and via email. We’d love to know what you think. :)

Don’t take our word for it, though. Here’s what some members of the press had to say about YSWMI:

“You Still Won’t Make It is the kind of indie game you’re going to hate while you fall in love with it.” -JayIsGames

“Everything about this game… I know I keep saying it… it has a really really decent atmosphere, they’ve really thought of everything…”  -GMNewsBite

“This house of death is kitted out with giant fans to float along, spikes laid down on every possible surface and collapsing platforms hovering above them, so it’s very likely you’re going to die…a lot.” -IndieStatik

YSWMI Demo available!

Hey everyone,

Whoever hasn’t tried You Still Won’t Make It has no excuse anymore, because we’ve put up a demo of You Still Won’t Make It that you can download to try the game out. You know what they say, first get them hooked… :P

The demo is available for PC and Mac and you can download it on the game page (on the sidebar).

YSWMI Update 1

Ever since we finished the final build of YSWMI, we’ve been working on an update to address some of the shortcomings as well as get new content out to you guys in order to keep your hatred for us nice and fresh. Some of those changes, in fact, made their way into the demo, although they’re inaccessible (as it IS a demo, and they’re not finished yet anyways). Some stuff you should watch out for:

  • Linux port (unless we run into some kind of massive hurdle porting the game).
  • The 18 classic levels from You Probably Won’t Make It should be making their way to You Still Won’t Make It.
  • Some other minor fixes to improve the game experience, like better gamepad support.
  • Mac App Store release.

There’s an update checker on the game itself, in the options menu. You can also follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook, or subscribe to our newsletter,  where you’ll get the latest news about new YSWMI versions and other Vetra Games news, all nice and warm straight from our newsoven. :)

On a longer timescale, we want to make a level editor for YSWMI (a good one, too) as well as complete World 4, 5, and 6. Hopefully these things should keep you entertained for a while.

And, finally, for those of you who haven’t bought YSWMI, don’t forget to go buy it now, it’s really fun! :D

You Still Won’t Make It: out now!

It’s here! You Still Won’t Make It is now available for Windows, Mac, and Windows 8! Awesome ad:

Buy You Still Won’t Make It (and we’ll love you forever! :D) through its official page, where you can buy it through our Humble widget (for PC and Mac), and the Windows Store (for Windows 8).

What about… ?

Desura: Desura has unfortunately failed to review and approve our game in time for YSWMI’s launch on the 30th of July. Rest assured that we’ve already uploaded builds of YSWMI to Desura and it’s only a matter of time before the game becomes available on Desura. Also, if you buy the game through our Humble widget, you’ll get a free Desura key along with the PC and Mac versions, so there’s no reason to wait. :)

Mac App Store: We haven’t yet submitted the game to Apple, as we thought we’d get some reviews out and some noise going before we make the game available there. Don’t worry, it’s coming.

Linux: We’re experimenting with a Linux (specifically, an Ubuntu) port, and should we make it available existing buyers who get the game through our website’s Humble widget and Desura should automatically get it.

Other Platform/Store: Let us know if you’d like to see YSWMI in ‘X’ platform or store, and if we see enough interest we might consider it. :)

Update schedule?

We’re already working on Update 1 for YSWMI. It should include the 18 Classic levels from ‘You Probably Won’t Make It’ as well as fixes for any bugs that may have slipped past us. Updates further down the line should include World 4 and a level editor (which is in the planning stage) as well as the (potential) aforementioned Linux port. We’ll talk more about Update 1 and beyond when we have more concrete details.

Other stuff?

Well, we’ve worked for a while on this game, so we really hope you enjoy it. We’ll be supporting it for a while with new levels, features, and more. Any suggestions or comments, don’t hesitate to contact us. Thanks for buying!

You Still Won’t Make It… release date announced!

yswmiannouncement

As the (hastily made, rubbish) graphic says, we’ve slated YSWMI for a 30th of July, 2013 release! YSWMI will be available for Windows and Mac through our website (at launch date), Desura, the Mac App Store, and the Windows 8 Store (dependent on each individual store’s release date). All for the very awesome price of $5 USD! That’s about the price of a coffee at your favourite overpriced local coffeeshop, so we hope we can see you playing from launch date. :)

To celebrate, we’ve created our very own Vetra Games Newsletter! We plan to give away free copies of YSWMI via this newsletter, our Twitter account, and Facebook page, so be sure to sign up, follow, and like today!

We also are pleased to announce we’ve localised You Still Won’t Make It to Spanish, French, and Dutch (and we’re looking at pushing further localisations down the line), so be sure to let your non-English speaking friends know about the game!

… So what is YSWMI anyways?

For those who are not familiar with the series, You Still Won’t Make It is the sequel to the hit You Probably Won’t Make It by Jesse Venbrux, which was well received by Mac and PC users everywhere. The new game features:

  • Over 50 new levels (with a promise to add more via updates)
  • Fancy new graphics
  • New game features
  • An amazing soundtrack by maestro Jake Almond
  • Gamepad support
  • Crazy new level designs by Jesse Venbrux
  • Guaranteed updates with new levels/features/etc.

We’ve worked very hard on this game for a fairly long time, so it’s great to finally announce its release date. We really hope you enjoy it when it’s out, so be sure to mark the release date on your calendar. :)

Also, we’re really proud to announce that we’ll be submitting this game to YoYo Games’ Win Big competition, so please wish us the best of luck, as the prize money will help towards future YSWMI updates and new games (like New Karoshi) which you should look forward to. :)

Check out a soundtrack sample and some awesome screenshots:

New Karoshi and a status update!

He's coming...

Yup, so we’re working on a Karoshi game. We won’t say much (it’s a spoiler after all), but know that it’s a new game. And it’s called New Karoshi.

You Still Won’t Make It

We’re still working on that! We’re very nearly finished (we promise).

Jesse visited me (Uriel) in order to crank out some hardcore YSWMI work out, and, boy, did the game not grow? Lots of ideas have been pitched, a concrete ‘deadline’ (also known as really finish it this time line) was placed, and a few ‘last minute features’ have been planned.

Here’s Jesse working on a YSWMI level. He built an awesome level designer which I’ll surely use.

Other news…

We’re aware that some users of our Mac App Store games are experiencing difficulties. We’re aware of the problem and we’re migrating all the games to the newest GameMaker runner available… we hope this solves the issue for good. However… the new technology kind of breaks games in a bad way sometimes, so we’re taking a while updating stuff to make sure everything works nicely. :)
