I’ve got great news.
I bought a Mac. Great for me, right? Well, it’s also great for you. Here’s why.
1) We always considered that the Macintosh platform should be taken into account. Now, however, I can push Macintosh development much faster.
2) iPod Touch and the iPhone are our new mobile babies. Buh-Bye BlackBerry being in the spotlight. However, please note that Alien Swarmz is not quite ready for a touchscreen only device. So scrap that. Only NEW games coming to mobile devices. Also note that we’ll develop for iPhone OS, but we’ll port to Palm’s webOS as well, and to Google’s Android.
Take a look into the screenshot above. You’ll notice some things. This is a port of the original Alien Swarmz 1.0.0 running on the Mac. Naturally, when I ported, I decided to run the sleekest version of Alien Swarmz, which is of course the original version (each version has bloated the game a little bit). The 1.5.3 development source doesn’t even run on the Mac OS. It’s too dependent on its little Windows-only dlls to power its Game Jolt compatibility. I haven’t bothered to recompile 1.0.2, and most probably I’ll port 1.5.0 to the Mac and let Mac users (like me lol) skip on the 1.5.3 release until the needed libraries are ported to the new platform and then re-adapted for Alien Swarmz: Mac. Note, 1.5.3 will be released, I’ll just code that on the Windows virtual machine.
(On a side note, I wanted to recompile Bort the Block and showcase it, as it is more colorful. No chance, as it just crashed on startup -_-)
Also note that I recompiled using the all famous GM for Mac RC. Thus, you can still see the YoYo runner putting its ugly name on the top bar. I filed a bug complaint.
On other news, the devlog now works nice with iPod Touch, iPhone, and Android. Yup, its got a mobile version!
You can check it out for yourself by pointing your favorite mobile web broswer to www.vetragames.com/devlog/
Yep. Also, one word, to raise up the hype. PaperCut!
Thanks for reading.
Update: I’ve played around with the app generated by Game Maker. It now has a custom top menu bar title (Alien Swarmz), and its also got its own icon.
Also, while browsing the devlog on my Palm OS Clié, the wptouch plugin did not quite work with the device. I’ve taught the wptouch plugin to recongnize all common mobile platforms (BlackBerry, iPhone OS, Android, Palm webOS, and Palm OS). The Netfront browser doesn’t render the page properly, but, hey! At least it works!
Screeny below:
Thanks for reading.

Wow ugriffin: great job on this! I can’t wait ’till Alien Swarmz for Mac. Also, papercut… I’m betting it will be a RPG (bort was a platformer, swarmz an arcade….)
